Welcome from the President of the Congress
Dear colleagues from the Americas and the rest of the world:
The New PANLAR features a number of new developments, one of which is that the PANLAR Congress will now be held every year. In 2019 the venue will be Quito, a World Cultural Heritage Site, located here in the Middle of the World.
The Ecuadorian Rheumatology Society will be honoured to welcome you to our beautiful country and one of the loveliest cities anywhere in the Americas.
We will continue to provide the quality of previous congresses and add new features, such as the Rheumatology-Related Specialities Conference. We will once again be holding our Congress of patients suffering from rheumatic diseases, and we will hold the first rheumatology workshop for nurses.
Renowned academics from our continent and all over the world, specialists in rheumatology and related fields, will be honouring us with their presence to share their latest scientific advances in pathophysiological mechanisms, the genetics of rheumatic diseases, the prevention of disability, the latest advances in treatment, and many other current topics.
My country, the crossroads between four worlds, awaits them. The East with its Amazonian rain forest, the Mountains with their countless and beautiful snowy peaks, the Coast with its picturesque cities and paradisical beaches, and our enchanted Galapagos archipelago.
Quito awaits you with open arms. A colonial city with a beautifully preserved historic centre. Full of places that are hard to forget, such as the Plaza Grande, the Plaza San Francisco, La Ronda Street, the nearby Middle of the World straddling the equator, all of its streets and museums and, especially, the friendliness and great hospitality of our people.
All of us are looking forward to welcoming you.
Dr. Carlos Vallejo Flores
President of the PANLAR 2019 Congress
